Revival in History: Introduction

Christian Revival simply means a spiritual awakening from a state of spiritual deadness, slumber, lethargy or stagnation in the life of a believer, a church congregation or society. Revival encompasses the pouring out of Gods Holy Spirit on mankind which brings about a deep love for God and Jesus the savior of the world, a renewed passion for souls, a convicting awareness of personal and corporate sin, a spirit of humility, and a desire for repentance and growth in righteousness.

Throughout history revival fire has been burning beginning with contest of Elijah VS the prophets of Baal (1 kings 18) to the nationwide awakening during the reign of Josiah king of Jerusalem (2 kings 22) to the more recent Azusa street revival. Revival generally involves the connotation of a fresh start with a clean slate, marking a new beginning of a life lived in obedience to God and also breaks the charm and power of the world, which blinds the eyes of men, and generates both the will and power to live in the world but not of the world. As we pray to God for another revival in our generation let’s take a look at some of the revival in history.
